KILBURNFLYER
Shane Warne finally announces his retirement much to the relief of the Barmy Army. More a cricketing George Best than anyone I can recall, he overcame lots of personal demons and was never a role model for young sportsmen. But to his credit and unlike Beckham he never professed to be. He let his performances speak for themselves except when sledging his opponents or getting pissed with his mates. Was a great privilege to see him bowl a few times over the years and he never failed to take a wicket or to flick the V's at the crowd when they tried to put him off by taking the piss out of his physique. Legend is an over used word but applies in his case.

KILBURNFLYER

One of the casualties of yesterday's news blitz by the government was the incredible stories of heroism contained in the latest operational honours list. A posthumous VC, a posthumous GC, the first female to win an MC etc etc. These great stories of heroism and the humility of the recipients deserved much more coverage than they got. A great shame for the recipents and the families of the bereaved that these rare pieces of good news from Iraq and Afghanistan got buried in an avalanche of bad.
