KILBURNFLYER

Another stonking weekend and another discovery.

9 Below Zero at the 100 Club is always a great night out - has been many a long year since I saw Dennis Greaves and co but they took me right back to their heyday. Was very surprised to see Gerry McAvoy on bass - he was always there alongside Rory Gallagher holding it all together - and doesn't look a day older than when I last saw him what must be nearly 15 years ago. Great set with 11+11 being a personal favourite and a great homage to Rory by playing Messing with the Kid - absolutely delightful.

Zodiac Mindwarp have been a great love of mine since I dont know when and pulled out a great show mixing the old and the new. I will perhaps recall the evening as the first time I saw a band called "The Treatment" who are extremely young but fucking excellent. If this lot can write songs then they will be mega stars one day soon.

Update: good to see that Dave Ling who is much more knowlegable on such things has a similar view. He said on his excellent diary:

"......In the highly capable and sickeningly youthful Matt Jones, Mansworth may just have unearthed another rough diamond singer in the vein of Richie Hevanz. Tunes like ‘Shake The Mountain’, ‘I Want Love’, ‘Nothing To Lose But Our Minds’ and the piledriving ‘Stone Cold Love’ suggest that their potential is huge."
